About 10yrs ago I was in Rochester, NY for Christmas. My MIL lived there at the time. The Patriots had just lost to the Buffalo Bills (I think it was a regular season game of no consequence). Buffalo was dealing with a horrendous snowstorm that night and the Patriots' team plane couldn't leave the Buffalo airport. They made a decision to take the team in a bus 90 minutes to Rochester, and fly the team out the next morning from Rochester. Meanwhile the team went to the local reasonably-famous BBQ joint in Rochester and kinda took over the bar area. We had no idea this was happening and had gone to that BBQ joint for dinner. As we were waiting for a table it became obvious that the bar was "closed for a private party". So we couldn't get drinks while waiting for a table. Whatever, I think nothing of it. I was standing next to the bar entrance just trying to not be in the way when I realized there were a bunch of kids looking into the bar area. I look closer and I see people that look like Brady and Gronk among the other large humans. I then listened a little to the wait staff and realized the "private party" was the Patriots.
I pieced the puzzle together. These kids who couldn't have been more than 10-12yrs old realized who was in the closed-off bar area and wanted to meet football players, especially the "famous guys". That's when I looked in and saw Brady leaving through the back kitchen door to a cab. Meanwhile some random guys who I assume were the offensive or defensive linemen came out and signed a couple autographs for the kids.
I'm sorry but if you are a public figure, and you are in a random place where literally 5 kids recognize you, you can come out and sign a couple autographs. Especially if the only reason you are famous is because you are good at playing a sport, and the only reason that even matters is because people want to watch you on TV. But no, he wanted to be a fecking coward and left out the kitchen door because his team had just lost a game that didn't matter to anyone because his team was already going to the playoffs.
I have no respect for anyone in a position of fame who has no desire to acknowledge those who put him in that position

that story doesn't really give me a "POS human" vibe. having to be "on" whenever you are out in public has to get tiring. for whatever reason maybe he didn't think he could be "on" right then.
I think the idea that they "owe us" something is a little much. I mean, they shouldn't be jerks about it but they also might not always feel like interacting with strangers or maybe even doing interviews (see below). I can get that.

I get that but this was like 5 kids at a random place that recognized him. It wasn't a mob of people or anything. Fans put sports people on their pedestals. A little appreciation would be warranted.
