Seemingly overnight, all the reporters started pronouncing Kiev as keev. What's up with that?

It's remarkable that we (and UK) seem to care more about this than the rest of Europe and even Ukraine.
In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said world leaders' rhetoric about a possible incursion are "causing 'panic' and destabilizing [the economy].
I'm sure the fact that Biden's and Boris Johnson's rapidly deteriorating popularity at home have nothing to do with it...

There’s hints of bipartisanship, but there’s also a real chance the GOP ends up siding with Putin IMO.
? You're delusional.

For some reason Trump never wanted to criticize Russia. I saw this week that Tucker Carlson was talking about why the US would back Ukraine. He said, "These are two countries far enough away that we don't have to worry about what might happen. Why are we more willing to back Ukraine instead of Russia?". Probably because Ukraine is minding its own business and Russia plans to invade a sovereign nation.

In WW2 an estimated 24 million Russians died.
To put that into context, about 8 million Germans died.
So you can see why Russia would want a very large buffer around their country.
That doesn't answer as to why Putin wants to jump into Ukraine.

There’s hints of bipartisanship, but there’s also a real chance the GOP ends up siding with Putin IMO.
In a shocking development that no one could have seen coming, a senate coup supporter sides with Putin—
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) is calling on the Biden administration to drop longstanding U.S. support for Ukraine's eventual membership in NATO, arguing that a binding commitment to defend the country would undermine efforts to counter China.
Here's what I don't understand.
Seemingly overnight, all the reporters started pronouncing Kiev as keev. What's up with that?
I noticed it in the first impeachment trial, the diplomats all pronounced it like that.
