I started with MUSIC. I got it in 5 tries.

Took me 5 guesses today. It's interesting how having knowledge of our language is a key part of the strategy. Like I know certain combinations of letters don't or maybe never happen in an English word. This allows me to eliminate possibilities and figure out a guess that might work.

nice!  did you feel pretty confident the 3rd guess was it or did you get a little bit lucky there?  I'm trying to see if I can even come up with a different 3rd guess and it's pretty tough....

I was pretty confident in the 3rd guess.  It turned out to be a single letter off from the 4th and final. I literally just ran the alphabet reviewing options.

 

Really guess 2 was lucky, I went from 1 letter in the right spot and a correct but misplaced letter in guess 1.  To 3 consecutive letters correct in guess 2.

There's a fair amount of luck involved. I used STOVE because it was the first 5 letter word that came to mind. All good letters except "V" so I just ran with it. That turned out to be a critical letter. Gave a few moments thought to the next two, and voila.

I realize larch and randy were unlikely candidates, but picked more for the letters.

Wonder what the best strategy is? I got 2 greens on my first guess, which kind of made it tough. My 3rd guess I actually picked 5 new letters,even though I knew it would be wrong. That helped a bunch. Got it in 5 guesses.

So going back to this I read something where what you are suggesting is more likely to result in getting the right answer in 6 guesses but not doing that will get you the answer in fewer guesses but is higher risk.

I guess that makes some sense in terms of maximizing new information?? I guess knowing a letter is even in the word is more useful than knowing which spot it resides in. I find knowing the spot helps me guess though so again I'm not sure how clear cut the advantage is.
