so I somehow made this thread but the post didn't happen.

wordle is kind of like mastermind with words.  pretty fun.  1 new puzzle every day.

 

today I did it in 4 guesses.

Wonder what the best strategy is? I got 2 greens on my first guess, which kind of made it tough. My 3rd guess I actually picked 5 new letters,even though I knew it would be wrong. That helped a bunch. Got it in 5 guesses.

Assuming the words are chosen randomly, there would be a single best first word to always choose, with a couple of vowels and common consonants.

Doubtful the words are chosen randomly, though.

Since you have to pick actual words I'm not sure going this way is beneficial enough but maybe. I would think ruling out vowels would be the most useful but I haven't thought about this too much.

Same. I got it down to the last three letters in the right spots on guess 5 and then I had to come up with the word based on what I had previously eliminated. I'm not sure if I got lucky though or of I really had eliminated enough letters to have a high probability of success.

I'm friends with a guy who made a word game on iOS that is like Boggle, it's also called Wordle. He made this game 3 years ago and had a few sales but all of a sudden it's going gangbusters because of this. Kinda funny, at first he was like wtf? Why is everyone downloading my game all of a sudden?

It's definitely gone viral in just a couple of days.  Kind of crazy how that happens.  Especially for something as simple as a web app word game.

You have to be a little careful with the "try as many letters as possible" strategy.  You need to start identifying where the letters fall in the 3rd or 4th turn or you don't narrow it down enough by the end.  It helps a lot if you hit 1 or 2 letters in the exact spot in the first two turns. Yesterday I managed to get 4/5 letters but only had one turn left. I guessed FORGE because I hadn't used F yet but the answer was GORGE because G was repeated.  That's a really tough one unless you make a legit guess in the 5th line.

 

I like that it's only one puzzle a day so I don't waste too much time on it.

I feel like it would be a good strategy to start with words like VAGUE or VOGUE to try and nail down the vowels. At least that worked for me today (the first time I've tried this)
