can you pull a sample first? even early on it's usually obvious if things really went to hell.

Yeah, I can do that. Makes sense.

Got the concrete poured on the patio, Still have to get the wood shop wired to 220v and get water into the basement. Then build the keggerator. I already have the freezer to mutilate.

My burners are calling to me, they haven't seem propane in 3 years!

Went on rodent patrol yesterday morning and all traps were empty. In the afternoon went down to do some work on my bandsaw. Found 1 in the water trap, 1 in the old fashioned snap trap and 3 in the glue traps. Just hoping all the mice I'm finding  in the basement seem to ignore my grain stash. It's all in sealed plastic containers. Not too sure how good it will be. I figure if it crunches, I can brew with it.

The part that really bites is that I bought four clone kits to play with from Adventures in Homebrewing and in the moving madness I never got around to brewing them. Well, the adventure continues.

Nice stoutfan!

Life got in the way yesterday, so I brewed this morning….

Seemed to spill everything I touched.
Melted a silicone hose when bringing temp up to boiling.
Flipped the breaker 1/3 of the way through a 60min boil.

But….I nailed volume and starting gravity (1.052) for the first time in my last 6 brews! Was able to cool down to 67 and I pitched the dry yeast. Used the brewfather app. It was slick.

Hopefully that hose snafu doesn’t give off flavors. I had planned for my next brew to pitch on that yeast cake, but because of the melted hose, I won’t be doing that.

Congrats on hitting OG! Not quite following on the melted tubing. Did it somehow melt in the wort?

Yeah. I was recirculating to warm it faster. Looked down and it had stretched out.

It takes some serious talent to melt a silicone hose. Good job on the OG. I'm always several points off.

Tasted my pale ale I bottled 7 days ago. It has the off flavor that caused me to stop brewing years ago. I need to figure that out. Gonna test a second bottle later.

Who is brewing 2023?

First time brewing since December 2022! I'm just doing a hoppy Kveik (Voss). I made this in the Fall and it was very good. I need to brew a lot in the next couple of weeks as pool party season is upon us.

I have an amber ale, maibock, and pilsner done so far in 2023. Planning an IPA next week, then I will be stocked for beer for most of the summer.
