First brew of the year tomorrow.  Wheat beer with Amarillo and US-05 harvested from the conical. Should be around 1.055 OG and pushing 60 IBUs

Well, when I moved the laundry, I managed to get the plumber to run about 30' of PEX over towards the brewery. Unfortunately, the rest is a bit way off. Don't even have a drain in the brewery. Now I'm putting a utility tub into the downstairs bathroom rough in, that's pretty much what I had in the old house.

So if this spring I get the patio concreted in and finish the downstairs bath, I might be able to get a batch in.

 

But I have to get my keggerator completed first. Brewing beer is great but you have to be able to dispense it! That will require my wood shop getting set up with 220 run over to it for the table saw.

 

Until then I just go to Aldi and grab a sixer of this:

What was your red ale recipe?  Iconic beer that is no longer readily available and I have thought, once I get the brewery clean, to do a red or amber to break things up.

I was on HBC (Homebrewchatter) for a long time. When that place went away I was here very briefly but I do not know if any of my friends from that time are still active.

I'll post both recipes. Both are 5 gallon calculation. 

 

Pils: This is my house beer, my go to recipe. I use this to test new hops too. My favorite was when Mandarina Bavaria was very new.

 

10lbs pils malt

30 IBUs of magnum in FWH

2 ounces Tettnanger at 5 minutes and flameout.

WYeast Bavarian. 

Double decoction.

Pitched at 50 degrees, slowly allowed to rise to 59. Will soon rack to Gel.

 

Red Ale: I do this one a lot of different ways, with either American Ale II or English Ale II (WYeast 1272 and 1335).

 

10lbs English ale malt. Either mild ale malt or a Maris Otter that is about 3.5L

.25lbs C120

.375lbs C60

.125lbs Roasted Barley

 

Mash at 152.

 

About 25 IBUs bittering hop (I use magnum)

 

Optional additions late. This version I added two ounces of Cascade. Sometimes I use non at all for a nice malty beer.

I did my version of an English AK today. Pretty simple - 10# Golden Promise, 1# flaked corn, and 1# inverted sugar (homemade). Going with Verdant yeast.

Oh, I forgot. I don't have any English hops so I used Styrian Golding - 2 oz for 30 minutes, 1 oz at 15 and 5. I made this exact recipe a few months ago. It was a nice beer.

Did my first hefeweizen in about 15 years yesterday. Pretty basic - 5.5# of pilsner and the same of white wheat. Trying out Munich Classic yeast. OG 1.054. That's an ultra light beer for me!

I'm back! All Centennial APA. Shooting for OG 1.050 and IBU around 35 with a bunch at the end. Sounds like a good way to get back to brewing after a few years

Yeah... brewing took a back seat to remodeling my house. Pretty much done with it and my wife bought me a kegerator for Christmas so I decided I better get back on the brewing horse and get something on tap.
