Ok drunkies...

I did a search, but want some newer info.

I started shaving again recently, and even good disposables leave me wanting. I rediscovered my main reason for not shaving, that being irritation, especially under the chin down to the neck. I can only go every other day.

What is the current PHBT thinking on safety razors?

Any good economy tips? Handles that are worth extra coin, real bargains?

Are feathers/astra still the go to blades? I see good reviews of voskodh and derby?

What about technique?  Soaps, lotions, etc?

Lay it on me gents!

I just shave my neck and upper cheeks, as I have had a beard for years, but I use a safety razor.

Merkur razor should last you a lifetime: https://www.amazon.c...29573625&sr=8-3

I use Astra blades. They're cheap and I've never had a reason to switch.

I use Captain's Choice shaving soap and after shave. I like the sandalwood scent,
but the "north" one is good too (piney). I use a decent brush to apply the soap.

Are the cartridges designed to flow cleaning water from behind? Or do they trap gunk?

Never had a problem with it. I use either Cremo cream or Prorasso if I'm feeling brushy.

I do as I’m the one who started it. You suggested a Merkur and it’s what I use.

Visited a Razor Blade factory last week. Pretty cool. They do scalpels, microtome blades, and utility knife and carpet blades. Used to do shaving razors. They make almost a billion blades per year.

I've got a Merkur HD.  Never used a lighter one so I can't compare, but I like the weight.

Do you need to be more careful with those "safety razors"? I just fling away with the Harry's I've been using for the past few years - never a nick. Harry's are fine but they were sending too many. I quit a year ago and still have a few blades.
