Hello, I'd like to invest in an oxygen tank aeration system. I know I can get the disposable tanks from the hardware store, and the LHBS carries the stainless Steel diffusion stone for about $18. Does anyone know where I can get the simple regulator for the tank? Or other suggestions?

Or this for $34.95. I got his, but after a while, I ended up getting one of those SS "wands" with the stone on the end. It has better control over just the hose.

Do you guys remove the hose from the stone for cleaning every time? Do you store the stone in a starsan solution? does this hurt the stone?

i stopped using the stone all together after getting sick of it being clogged up. I understand that would work much better than just the hose, but the O2 tanks are cheap enough and I feel better about having any O2 in the wort than none at all and am willing to just leave it on for a bit longer. My lag times are pretty minimal for the most part. Once I have a permanent living arrangement I will likely reinvest in a stone or see if i can get clever and get an inline O2 system.

I just soak my stone attached to the hose in starsan for 5 minutes. Pull out, turn on O2 for a couple of seconds, shake off some of the foam and then aerate. Then I soak for another 5, turning the O2 on and off a couple of time while soaking for a second or two. Then pull out of starsan solution and run o2 and shake for a second. Then wipe off with a paper towel and hang to dry till next time. About every 25 batches or so I'll take the stone off the hose and boil for 15 minutes in a double boiler configuration as a mater or course. Have done this for years with the same stone and had great success.

I've never taken the hose off my stone. I boil it, with the hose on, for 10 minutes before and after oxygenating. Never had any problems with it.EDIT: That's not 100% true. A few months ago, I started boiling the stone while chilling. I forgot it was on the stove and all the water boiled off. By the time I went back upstairs the house was filled with smoke, the tubing was just char and my nice stainless pot was all discolored. The stone was fine though. I put a new piece of tubing on and it worked fine.

I just rinse the wort off and boil it for a few minutes, then I put it away.

Yeah, I only rinse it off then Star san it and store the end of it in a gallon ziploc bag so the stone doesnt get crudded. (This is the wand one I mentioned earlier)

I use the cheap ceramic air stones for aquariums, and pitch them after each use. Hmmm...two threads on the same subject. Am I in the PH?

I also stopped using my stone. Now I pump O2 into the empty carboy just before the chilled wort goes in from the brew kettle. I then whip for a minute or two to mix. Works very well IMO.
