I need to put together an extension cord to power my Foundry with 240 volt. This will be off our dryer outlet, going out to the garage for now, but I'll eventually have a brew kitchen in the laundry room when I'm able to remodel it. HVB gave me a GFCI unit to place in-line. 

 

I guess the best way to do this is buy a dryer extension cord (the receptacle is the old three prong style) and splice the GFCI unit in in the middle? I was going to use heat shrink connectors for the splice.

 

This is the best deal I could find for the length I need (15-20 feet, at least). I guess demand is up due to people buying these to charge their EVs. Still seems expensive.

I was going to suggest just getting 10-3 SJOOW at a big box store and the appropriate plug ends and assemble it all but that does not seem to be much cheaper.  I really have no better alternative that I could find quickly I will look a few more places though.

Is 30A big enough? How many Watts is the Foundry?

If it is a 13A draw is there a reason you are looking at the 30A cords?  Is it just because of the end for the dryer?  A 12g cord will work for that amperage.

Just the connections. I suppose, given that, I should just build my own cord.

I believe they make in line GFCI that have terminal screws inside the housing of the GFCI. You could cut off the plug on the Foundry, prep the wire, and use the cable one side of the GFCI. Purchase some bulk cable, one end goes to the GFCI, the other end gets a plug to go into the dryer socket.

The GFCI that I gave him does not have terminals, it has pigtails.  a but splice and shrink tubing will be the best option.

I guess the devil is in the details. Butt splicing and shrink tubing is not what I would do in a homebrewing environment.

I guess it depends on how comfortable you are.  I would have no issues but that is me.  Alternatively he could mount the GFCI onto a box and have the connections inside.
