I dry hopped into a pressurized fermenter last week. It was at 25 psi but I lowered it during a couple of hours by turning down my SPUNDit until I got to around 10. I then released the final 10, opened the torpedo keg and dropped in the hops. I purged afterwards. No problem.

I did have a fair amount of headspace though as my Torpedo is 10G.

Maybe I did it too fast. As I said earlier this was def my fault. Hence the swearing.

Despite it going against everything I stand for I could almost be convinced to jumper these beers to new kegs after 2-3 days. Even after 24 hours the hop level is pretty nice. I wonder if I could just clean one more keg, jump a beer, remove hop tube and then jumper the other keg into that.... :scratch:

one keg is clean and sanitized... I might do my jumping plan

keg 1 -> keg 3

remove hop tube from keg 1

keg 2 -> keg 1 (no cleaning!)

clean keg 2 and hop tubes

not too bad.  using some more CO2 but otherwise not that much more work.

So right now there is still some hop debris in the kegs so I'm not getting a complete picture yet but there is hope for good stuff.

okay so here we are again.  I've got some APA that is in need of dry hopping soon.  It's in primary at about 68-70F now.  spunding valve is on but I only let it build up to 10 PSI instead of my normal 30ish PSI.  (I know this sounds like a lot but take a look at your volumes of CO2 chart and you'll see that 30 PSI at room temp is similar to 10 PSI in the low 30s).

I'm hoping if I chill this down that the level of carbonation won't be so high as to foam like crazy when I try to take the lid off and dump in some hops.

so I'm not predicting I'll have any foam over issues when I take the lid off of my primary fermentor.  the beer is not crazy carbonated at all based on the hydro sample I took.

so chilling the beer down now.  I already had a SS mesh tube that is taller than beer level in place so I can just dump the hops in, put the lid back on and then do some aggressive CO2 purging.

How long do you guys chill (to drop yeast out) before adding dry hops? Just curious.

And do you warm it back up before dry hopping?

I believe HVB does.  I generally do not.

I should add I'll probably let this warm up slightly but still under 40f.

I prefer to warm back up to 55-65 for dry hopping.  I did not like the results of DH at crash temps.  Before Denny comes in and says it, Yes I realize I am one of the few that does not like that.  I am OK with that :)

I haven't done warm dry hopping many times but I haven't found either method bad.

so the possible issue I see now is that it seems like my dip tube is clogged.  I've blasted it out with CO2 a couple of times and managed to pour a little out before it gets clogged up again.  hopefully over the next couple of days things will settle enough that I'll be able to transfer to kegs without massive clogging.  Otherwise I may be working on this primary for a while and dry hopping for many days instead of a couple.  not ideal but I'll get this beer out one way or another.

so I just shifted my mesh screen around the dip tube (it's kind of free floating) and then I purged the headspace for a while at 30 PSI and I was able to slowly get about a pint out.  I'll make this happen!  hopefully without too much O2 ingress :(
