Just curious, why Starsan? Starsan seems to foam up so much, its like brewing in a bubble bath. LOL. I have been using Iodophor lately, mostly because that's what I have on hand.

I use both. Starsan is nice because I can keep a bucket and spray bottle around for a while. iodophor is to kill the things starsan doesn't on my fermentors and kegs.

I think homebrewers overlook bleach. Bleach is brutal against all kinds of nasty things.
Yes, you have to rinse it. So go ahead and rinse it with tap water. Then all you have to to is treat your tap water with moderate strength Iodophpre or StarSan solution. All you are doing is ensuring that your rinse water is sanitized and to kill what ever might have come along with the tap.
ETA, Yes, yes, I know stainless steel. Do not soak your stainless steel in bleach. A bleach exposure of 30 seconds and a rinse, all you need.

Certainly a good point. Bleach is cheap, too.

I rotate in bleach when sanitizing fermentors. I'm still using glass so I have no issue letting them sit until I'm ready to rinse.

Back when I used bleach metabisulphite was nice to knock out the chlorine and, at the time, I felt better than rinsing with a bunch of tap water. That was a really long time ago.

No love for sani clean? StarSan's foamless counter part?
Dose for dose, it costs twice as much to use. Without the foam, SaniClean is more difficult to apply.
For some applications, like cleaning by pumping through tubing, the absence of foam is a plus.

for those situations I'd just use iodophor. not sure on the cost difference.

I pump SS throught all my hoses, plate chiller and post chiller. Foaming isn't much of an issue

Just did the calculation of per gallon of product for each saniclean and Iodphor. The ladder does stretch a little rather. I could never find it, so settled on SaniClean. May try it next time I need to pick up sanitizer.

Five Star recommended dose:
StarSan = 1 oz / 5 gal
SaniClean = 2 oz / 5 gal
Used to be StarSan and SaniClean retailed for the same price.
Looking at online prices: SaniClean is now about 20-30% less compared to StarSan. Not exactly twice as expensive per dose. Maybe you can find additional economy by using less SaniClean for a given application.
