No, this wasn't me.

We have recently had an incident with the ANVIL Foundry where a user boiled with the lid on and latched in place. Upon removal of the lid while in use, this person received severe burns. Please heed the warning on the back of the unit to never boil with the lid on, and please reread the manual for all safety measures. We also advise users to wear protective gloves and shoes/clothing while brewing. With proper safety measures, you’ll avoid burn injuries that are inherent in this hobby.

I've always wondered what the purpose of the latches on this really is. It has a silicone seal on the lid which will keep heat in during the mash. There's a hole for the recirculation line which should serve as a vent, but the latches just scream danger to me. The only time I use them is in storage to keep dust out, but even that isn't really necessary at all. The difference in heat loss during the mash with using latches vs. not would be tiny.

is it possible you could ferment in this thing?

That's a good point. If you didn't mind the hop sediment and break material or had a way to get them out, you could, I suppose, and rig an airlock on that hole. To me it's so trivial to sanitize a fermentation bucket that I wouldn't bother with it.
