I'm so screwed.  I am going to waste so much time on this.  I finally got a grasp of the keyboard commands and basic crafting skills.  I made my club, hammer, axe, then promptly got killed by some jackass.   So, I need pants.  Apparently i get cold a lot.  And,  I need stone.  Lots of stone.

I cant seem to find any stone.  I have the tools crafted but how do I make the work bench? I found a nice abandoned little fixer upper in a nice neighborhood.  

Do we need a Brews Brothers Valheim game server?   I just happen to have a spare pc lying around.  LOL

There are stones on the ground everywhere. Just pick them up.

Turn down your vegetation so you can see everything on the ground more easily. Smallish rocks can be picked up.

I need to build a boat. My main island has meadows, black forest, and mountains. No swamp. Still haven't found any honey yet either. I wish you could eat the greylings.

Have you not found any bees nests in ruins?  You have to shoot those with arrows and queen bees fall out, which you can use to make your own hives that can be harvested without destroying them.

 

I think I got extremely lucky by finding a bit of swamp without having to sail.

I got lucky with my seed, (giggity) I've got mountains, swamp, plains, black forest, meadows all reasonably close, and also found the merchant, no boat needed so far.

Impressively, they've all been empty. Early on I had a battle against a troll in a little abandoned town. It's possible there were some hives destroyed (on of those guys with the log) as the place got based apart, but who knows.

Point of information: you can't make a portal inside a sunken crypt.

I decided I'm going infrastructure first. First iron on forge to 5 and stone cutter. That lets you buff the bronze further as a stopgap. I'm moving from the log palisade to the final stone-walled fortress near the ocean. Damned swamp critters keep attacking the palisade, even though it's in the meadow.

Next two play sessions will likely be all building.
