My rev system needs some work but whatever.

10 gallon batch per usual.

19 lb Golden Promise

2 lb flaked oats

1 lb white wheat

1 lb Crystal 20

1.5oz Galena @ 30

Then a lot of hop stand:

2oz Columbus

2oz Citra

1.5oz Bravo

4oz Eldorado

ferment on a 007 starter of BRY-97 I saved from a batch of porter a month or so ago.

DH will be dependent on what hops I have available so TBD on that.

Drez and I discussed this a little bit in the other thread and in this instance I'm trying to keep enough Eldorado around so I can at least do one 5 gallon keg with lots of that and a little bravo.  the second keg I may do a combo of hops like I used in the WP or some other combo of hops based on new stuff that I have coming in.  not a bad decision to have to make

hmmm - mash pH is a little higher than I bru'n water predicted (5.5 instead of 5.3).  is there a handy calculator out there that would tell me how much salts or lactic to add to pull a mash of X pH down to X-Y pH?

as it stands I'm going to add another 3mL of lactic which bru'n water predicted would have been 5.2.  I figure worst case is I'd end up at 5.2 but more likely 5.3 or 5.4.

I have never found anything like that. I usually would leave it or just uat a small amount of lactic.

yeah - sometimes this stuff throws me for a loop a little bit b/c I haven't traced through the calculations.  since pH is on a log scale it isn't as easy as X amount of lactic will reduce pH by Y.  I'm sure there is more behind it than that as well.

so it seems like when I use a good amount of flaked oats my efficiency goes down a little bit.  I wonder what's going on there....
