I was looking through my grain from Sunday and I see more full kernels than I like.  My mill is set as tight as it will go so I guess the only option is to double mill at this point.

what mill is it again?  I'm surprised that the tightest setting doesn't do it!

It is a JSP Malt Mill http://schmidling.com/barebone.htm

The issue may be that it is only adjustable on one side.  So you have a triangle opening vs the rollers being perfectly parallel.

I dump my grain out back and in the past after a few days I notice that I can see large pieces in there as it dries out so this is not new but at this point I need to address it somehow.  Either double mill, not overly thrilled at that idea or a new mill.

Only adjustable on one end, that seems like a silly design.

I agree.  15-18 years ago when I got this my options were limited and this was the best option at the time. I know Denny has the same mill and does not seem to have an issue but I am not sure if his is single sided or both side adjustable.

Yeah, that means you can never get an even crush. I think you've earned a new mill!

I think I will open it to .035 and double mill and see how it goes.  If I still notice issues I will start some mill research.

I think I am a week or 2 out from my next batch.

My BC started slipping/free wheeling many batches ago. So I’ve widened the gap a bit, which seems to have stopped that. Then I double crush with the faintest gap. It’s my full time process now and it fixed a problem and also allows for a couple extra points of efficiency

A couple months back, I was ready to toss my BC and get a new mill for Christmas. After my 6 year hiatus from brewing, I noticed that "free wheeling" as well. After I took it apart and reassembled, it has been working great. I have it set pretty fine for BIAB and my efficiency is better than ever.

It didn't take me long to buy parts to make both sides adjustable.  That worked well until it wore out.
