For the kid, around $300. Don't know much about them, brands and stuff. School work mostly I guess. I'm in charge of finding one. What you got?

I got my wife a Samsung one probably 7 years ago. It works great although the charging port is now damaged from it getting dropped at some point. Boots up super fast. Money well spent IMO

We bought two of these to supplement one we already had. The price has gone up since we bought. Really happy. Like new.

I bought a Dell one in November of 2018 that was in the $250 range. It lives in the kitchen, gets daily use by the wife, survived daily use by the kiddo during the spring semester rona shutdown, and planning to use it again for that job in the fall.

Considering what I paid im pretty impressed with it.

we got our kids HP chromebooks from Costco for Christmas with the idea that they were going to need them for their schoolwork. Little did we know how much they were going to need them when March rolled around. They've been rock fecking solid. Od entertain one for myself whenever my lenovo laptop decodes to shit the bed, which doesn't seem to be anytime soon. The lenovo has been one of the best computers I've ever purchased.

my brother has a couple HP's and he's been real happy with them.

his daughters new school (Collierville TN) issues them MacBooks though so the chromebooks wont get used much after school starts

Yeah but I know the MacBook will last her through high school so IMHO it was money well spent.
