They were made off the shelf GM parts. The front suspension is from a chevette. It started out with the iron Duke 4 although I think a v6 was available the 2nd year. I have read that they finally sorted it out in 88 but by then they were down to 20k cars, the first couple years they sold 125k +.

Good being relative to the other stuff gm was putting out in the 80s

My brother had one. It handled really well. It was also built really poorly, that way when/if the engine caught on fire, there was a chance the rear half would separate and save you.

that's forward thinking right there.  they hadn't started using 'capsule' tech on hydroplane yet, this could have been life saving tech
