So I am in Indiana this week for the ASS Smallbore Championships... Elkhart/Bristol area.

There was a Culvers nearby so I grabbed some takeout tonight.

Double Cheese Butter Burger with mustard, ketchup, onion and lettuce.

Side of Crinkle cut fries.

Fries: Not bad.  Better than McDonald's but not as good as Wendy's and no where nearly as good as Five Guys.

Burger:  Excellent.  The smashburger style is unique and seals in the flavor nicely.  I used to work at a GD Ritzie's in Columbus in the 80's and they had a similar style burger.  It comes very close to the overall flavor of a five guys. I would rate the Culvers even or slightly below the Five Guys standard IMO.

Final overall score is 5/7... would eat again.

Get the cheese curds rather than fries. They make a good burger. They also have a big menu which is good if you have non burger eaters

I was thinking about the cheese curds after I had already ordered... thought about adding them but it would have been too much to eat.  Not a fan of frozen custard.  Not so much the flavor but the texture.

I'm a sucker for frozen custard. If I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat a burger and the custard I skip the burger...

Get over to Mishwaka and hit Evil Czech and Heavenly Goat. Then go to South Bend to Crooked Ewe. Then back to Elkhart to Iechyd Da.

Did you let Busco, Dave In Indiana or even me know? My folks lake house isn't terribly far from Elkhart, I was there earlier this week for several days. I would have met for a beer

I’ve also heard of not liking puppies. But, to each their own.

I wish I had. I didn't know many people her and spent all of my evenings alone.  Next time for sure.

Does Culver's salt their fries at all? I always have to add extra salt and pepper.

No. They cater to the elderly a lot.

Culver's is arguably the best all-around fast food joint out there.  great variety on the menu, food pretty damn good across the board.  the fries, when they are cooked well done, are pretty good.  to often they are cooked a bit too soft IMHO and can get a little soggy, but when they are done right they are very solid despite the protestations of a board member or two

Agreed.  I wouldn't say they're they absolute best at anything - except maybe custard - but they're top three in almost everything.
