A couple of weeks ago, we had a malware attack.  It was easily solved.  However, the root of the problem is that we are on a version of Invision Powerboard that is no longer supported.  Security flaws are being found and exploited, and patches will not be incoming.  We can expect the attacks to continue.

Last time we had board stability problems, we talked about a board upgrade.  See the other pinned topic in this forum for details and examples.  At that time, you all voted pretty overwhelmingly for Xenforo as our preferred upgrade option.  Simon did not have the time at that point to do the work, so it didn't happen.

Simon now has time.  The cost is variable depending on how long it takes Simon to do it, but an estimated max is $600.  All board content would be preserved.  The only hitch is that you'll likely have to use the password recovery function the first time you try to log in.

See the attached poll.  How many of you would be willing to kick in at least $20 to make it happen?

I'll leave this up for a couple of days and then make a call.

Ask Simon how much storage space is available. Another forum I frequent running the same software allows you to attach or drag a pic from your device to the posting body. You don't have to link to a URL. However, if those images are being stored on the forums server there has to be a limit at some point unless we pay for the extra storage. I guess I'm curious how much capacity we either have or will have.

We have 20Gb of which we have 6gb free. It's a legacy package though so we can upgrade to 25gb for the same price. Or 50gb (and double the ram) is only $5 more a month if needed

After the $600 upgrade what are the yearly costs? The added $5 month for the extra ram and storage seems like a no brainer but if there's a reoccurring fee then we need to plan for that also.

To keep getting forum software updates after the first year it's $55 + sales tax a year

More space will increase the backup costs (from $1 a month to $2)

Outside that only other costs are any time I spend updating either forum software or the server software and any fixes that need carried out

Any costs less than a couple hundred bucks annually I just pay and move on.  It's the major work like this that costs the big bucks where I ask you guys to contribute.

I'm in for the upgrade costs and you shouldn't be footing the bill for maintenance.
