So I possibly mentioned this in another thread but I just took apart two kegs I had soaking in oxiclean and the o-rings on the dip tube side are shredded on both of them.  I'm pretty sure these were brand new o-rings.  They are no longer useable.  I'm not sure what it is about the dip tubes in combination with my kegs but it's an o-ring destroying machine.

so I'm thinking this might be the same issue I had (maybe still have to a lesser degree but not 100% sure yet) that I had with the post on my fermenter.  the piece that the o-ring bumps up against on the top is not completely flat so it partially catches on the o-ring as I tighten/loosen and it shreds it like there is no tomorrow.  when I have a little more time I think I'll try to pound it flat but on this go around I'm going to revert to standard dip tubes.

obviously this has little to do with the idea itself, just the manufacturing of the short dip tube.

Yeah mine get chewed up as well. I just put some new ones in and each time if they are that bad.

I think we can fix this problem.  I already attempted it on my fermenter and so far it seems okay or at least not as bad.  I can tell when it's going on because as you get close to fully tightening the post down instead of relatively minimal resistance followed by a very fast increase to full stop you start engaging a strange spongy resistance much earlier in the tightening process that is the o-ring partially getting stuck and then sliding with resistance even though it's been recently lubricated.

I've taken these posts apart and put them back together so many times it's sad how intimate I am with the feel of the process.

So your diptubes are special? I just cut my existing ones to 2 inches.

My kits came with short dip tubes. If I had cut the old ones this would not be happening but it is nice to be able to use regular dip tubes if I want to.

Cheap option to cut up if you want to use real diptubes

I got a fix for my floating dip tube that floats too much and sticks up in the headspace issue. I took a flair nut and drilled it out a little so it could slide over the dip tube. The bonus part is that the nut can screw onto the tubing and act as a clamp. Keeps it submerged perfectly.

Thanks Matt. I have the same ones from Williams brewing. I bought four for my serving tanks, but moving got in the way. I'll be adding your suggested hardware!

It's working great right now with a IPA.

Got to say, excellent customer service. Shortly after texting the dude this morning, I got a phone call while on my bike. It was probably 6:30 am where he called from. I'll see how this works out with a dry hopped keg in the next few days.

Once I got this figured out, it's been very good. The best part is that you don't have to connect the tubing while the gas tube is in the keg. So much easier. Also, the seller is excellent and very hands on if there's an issue.

Mention Mark from SC. The dude is very nice, sent me extra tubing (which came in handy when I cut short) and even sent me his excellent spunding valve for free.

I recently picked up a couple of these too. I think these are the original type floating dip tubes. Used it once, works well. But pricey.

I'm going to set up my 10 gallon Torpedo keg with the cask widge float for my pressurized fermentations.

I believe these are now available from a couple of different vendors:

Thanks for posting this. With my pre-filter I have not needed one like this in a while but I will still grab a couple for keg hopped beers.

I bought this 4 pack of gas dip tubes from Amazon. The longer ones (you get 2 of each) are better IMO because it gives you a little more room to play with. I have one hooked up to the cask widget float on my 10G Torpedo keg. Works great as my pressurized fermentation vessel.
