For the seven years we have lived here, we had two guest bedrooms set up.  In all that time, we only ever needed both at once on two occasions.  Waste of space if you ask me.  My wife started having a bit of a freakout that all my guitars, banjos, etc were in our formal living room with cables and shit going everywhere.  So I suggested I take over one of the guest bedrooms.  Well she thought it was a great idea.

This is the result:

Could use some art on the walls.  And since this is my man cave, I can put up music posters and other such things my wife wouldn't want in the normal part of the house haha.

I dragged a spare set of speakers, amplifiers, and such so I have a stereo in here as well as my guitars and such.

Although she just came in here, sneered, and said "it's crowded in here, we need to rearrange it".  *sigh*. I got a little defensive since this is MY space that she said I could have.  Why does she need to dictate how it's laid out?  Whatever.

Now I just need a docking station, keyboard and monitor for my laptop, and maybe a more comfortable desk chair.  But I can see spending a ton of time in here on that ratty old couch.

OOOh the arguments are starting...

(Note, the whole point of giving me this space was so I had a place to play/record guitars and such without having cables and amps and laptops and gear all over "her" space in the house)

Me: I think I am going to buy a docking station, monitor and keyboard

Her: We already have an office in this house.  We don't need two

Me: You told me I couldn't set up my guitars in what you said was your office.

Her: But having two offices is weird

Me: why?

Why is having two offices for two people weird?

She couldn't answer that question.  My friends both work at home.  They have separate offices set up.  My wife has her "office" with a computer set up that she doesn't use (admittedly it's a 2010 iMac and it isn't terribly powerful by 2020 standards).  When she wanted me to get the guitars out of the formal living room (which we also don't use), I suggested taking over the generally unused "office".  She said no that's her space.  OK fine.  She suggested I take the one bedroom we don't use.  I thought it was a great idea.  And went ahead and set it up today.  Now it's somehow a problem.  I am just laughing at how absurd she is being.

Just tell her it's not an office, it's a studio.

We have 2 offices, both have dual functions. The 4th bedroom / guest room (futon bed) is my wife's. The finished basement is mine, it doubles as the "man cave" that I share with my 2 son's (foosball, darts, tv, aquarium, Xbox one,PlayStation 2, stereo, guitars, retro gaming system).

The banjo is in my wife's office. The piano in the living room.

Your problem is that it looks like room with guitars and banjos lying around. You need to make it look like a man cave.

Is that a BOSS Katana amp? I’ve heard great things about them. I recently threw down a BOSS GT-100 floorboard and have been in love with it.

I bet she had plans to ditch the bed in her “office”

Yea! It’s a Katana 50. I love it! Keeps me from having to have a mess of pedals all over the place.

This was step one. It will become more man cavey soon enough

Just tell her it's not an office, it's a studio.

Honestly that’s what she called it first. I thought it was a great idea. But as soon as I proposed the docking station and monitor/keyboard suddenly it became an “office”. The logic is bizarre since the studio needs a functioning computer.

You’re both well paid adults in a large house with no kids, buy and put in what you want.

A leg lamp would really seal the deal. ;)

Tell her you’re a grown ass-man and don’t need to be hen pecked like a recalcitrant 12 year old. Then go get some ass, man.

Separate work from home spaces here.

You need a liquor cabinet / table. A few good bottles ready for a pour.

You should hang your strings on the wall! We did that with one of my boys guitars and it looks really cool.
