That was the price that the rental places paid for them, but it included the privilege of renting them. If you lost or damaged one, that's what they charged to free it, but I don't believe there were ever $100 tapes for sale to the general public.

There were. A rich kid I knew always had them. Do you remember ads that said "priced to own"? That's when the prices dropped to $20 or whatever.

Yeah, I don't recall what movie, but I specifically recall seeing a movie marked "for sale" on the counter of a video store priced at $89.99.

We rented Trolls 2, Call of the Wild, and Onward. They were around $20. When your stuck at home and have watched everything your streaming service has to offer it's worth it IMHO. I used to have a vastly different opinion on paying that much.

I’d rather listen to music, read, play guitar, write, surf the web, etc. Maybe I’m just cheap.

I get paying that in a theater. No way I’m paying that at home. I’m at home, not a theater. Some of them even have $30-$40 rentals for HD versions.

If movies were my thing I would happily pay "extra" to not have to be near other people in a theater.  COVID has nothing to do with it, I just hate being near others in the dark, always have.

Would it be hurtful to say "That's what she said"

I just had an interesting talk with a friend on the phone. It was a good catch up call(we’ve not spoke in months), well he’s an animator at DreamWorks, the release of Trolls to VOD has been great for studios. It allows them to retain more of the profits by cutting out all the middle men. They’re  working to push more new content to VOD, rather than the theatres
