I was just looking to put in an order at the local Home Depot.  Everything I was going to order is out of stock at the store.  On a related note, I saw that Home Depot revenue was up 7% in the first quarter.

I need to get a few bags of mulch. It's been unavailable for online orders, "limited stock in store." Gonna go over there later this morning and see what's up.

I placed a delivery order a week ago to build some raised beds and deer fencing. I got all the lumber and some fish safe pond liners from the Depot, but had to order screws from Amazon. Chicken wire was back ordered and should get here in early June.

Seems fine in store. A lot of the stuff on the website is often not in stock even in years past.

I have to go up to at least the third Home Depot into NH before I see everything in stock for pickup.  The couple of closest HDs to me have essentially nothing in stock for pickup at all.  That is very out of the ordinary.

I must be just far enough North.

This is a good time to bring up another annoyance with Lowes/HD...their stock levels on the website are always wrong.  If it says "2 available at this store" you can almost be certain that they are out of stock.  It baffles me that these multi-billion dollar corporations that deal in high volume retail can't figure out inventory tracking.

I haven't had any problems getting what I need.  called about 6x6 posts for the barn, 2x6 purlins, and associated sheet metal screws and etc.  everything in stock, and I quote "we have plenty of all of that stuff", but this isn't a home depot its a local lumber yard.

Yes, I suspect the big box stores are seeing a larger increase in traffic.  The local places are likely seeing normalish volume.

So I went over and there was PLENTY of mulch. I asked someone why it was showing out of stock on the website. She said they were limiting online orders of large items like mulch and bagged soil, because people are ordering online and then waiting several days to pick it up, and it takes up too much space in the store to stash it aside until you show up. This isn't usually an issue but online orders in general are way up, and space is at a premium with social distancing, directional movement through the aisles, etc.

I'm getting the stuff at the South Merrimack store, so you're probably good where you are.

Unless they put an RFID tag on everything, this is about as good as it's going to get.  If it says 30 in stock, you're good.  Anything below 10 is iffy.  They probably do still have 2 of whatever in the store, but both have been relocated by customers and will never be found.

No idea how often they do a physical inventory and reconcile the books, but it can't be cheap so I'm guessing not often.

I went to Lowes Sunday for the first time in forever. Pretty busy, but no stock issues that I saw.

They seem pretty normal here but people are packed in there like cattle most of the time.
When tp was in shortage someone posted a photo on a local FB page showing that Lowe’s had a bunch, so everyone rushed to get theirs stocked up and another person posted a photo of an entirely empty cleaning section a few hours later though....

Yup, the business bar at my local HD shows it's as busy now, 3pm on Tuesday, as a typical Saturday afternoon.

ETA: Should that be "busy"ness bar?  Business bar sounds fun though.
