While everything else is in turmoil - the AHA membership elected 5 new members to the Governing Committee. Drew sits down and talks with Amy, Annie, Cassie, Chris and Gail about what makes them tick as homebrewers. We also talk with Gary Glass, who might need to be promoted to co-host, about the online version of HomebrewCon now that we know Nashville can't happen (yet!)

I have to say the female to male ratio you've got there does not match my reality. Granted most of the Homebrewers I know are here and I only know if a few outside of the forums. There was a woman who used to work with me that I helped get going but as far as I know she never stuck with it. I've met a few women who were pro Brewers but almost no hobbyists.

Yeah, it's gotta be at least 10:1, probably higher.  I bet Denny has the stats.  :)

I'd say 50% of the brewers in my club are women.

I actually think it has to do with the fact that in general it seems like women tend not to have hobbies as often as men do. Maybe this is a carryover from the old days? I don't really know why it would be the case.

Dude, I'm gonna go easy on you here and let that pass.....

deleting my posts as I'd hate to scare anyone off.  I'd gladly have an honest discussion over in the PH though.  I am confident my views aren't rooted in sexism or anything like that.

I wish there were more women around here.  I think it would be good for the group.

I think it is def more common for women to brew now vs 20 yrs ago. I worked at the LHBS in college, circa 2000, the ratio of men to women customers was way, way more than 10:1.

I've met women who work at home brew shops than I've met who homebrew.  my personal sample is not great though since I hardly know any people outside of this forum that do it.  maybe 4-5 at most.

That's funny because 2 out of the other 3 people who worked there during my tenure were women.  :)
