We've had threads with dozens of mill questions and problems over the years and nearly 100% of them are related to the Barley Crusher. Everyone else swears by their brand of mill, Schmidling, Monster, Crankandstein, etc. but the one thing they all have in common is that they aren't Barley Crushers. Anyways, this doesn't help Mando much but I think that if I had a Barley Crusher that was acting up I would be looking to replace it ASAP.

Retrospect 20-20 I totally agree but my BC is going on 15 years old now and ground a lot of grain over that time. I've cleaned it twice in that time and after a cleaning it's like new again.

Dont get me wrong I still want a 3 roller MM but it's not at the top of the list of brewery improvements.

had the same issue with my BC. keep in mind, after each crush, i'd clean the rollers with a paint brush, and blow out all the dust with a shop vac. once the rollers started to not turn, i'd lube the rollers with veggie oil, and even rotate the rollers for even wear. even got a set of replacement rollers from the company for free after a long e-mail exchange the 3rd year of owning it.

but, ultimately, after all that, at year 7, putting in a space washer so the rollers wouldn't bind up, adjusting the gap, i was getting sick of putting my hand on the rollers to "prime" it, only to have it stop 15-30 seconds later with the recommended RPMs with a cordless drill. after a hour and a half of trying to crush 11 lbs of grain, my emotions got the best of me, and took it on the BC with a 8 lb engineers hammer. in all fairness, I put close to a ton of grain thru it.

in 2017, picked up a JSP bare-bones Mill, and never had a problem like that since. from what I understand, i got one of the last runs of that mill. think he got outta the business.

The lower roller on my MM3 sticks sometimes if I haven't used it in a while (which is almost every time I use it) but once I break it free it works fine.  I haven't had any consistent issues with it binding up.

Finally put my BC out to pasture after ~14 years and moved on to a 2 roller monster mill. The burls are just gradually flattened. I had some success extending the life ~5 years by cleaning and sharpening it with a triangle file but common opinion seems to be the steel the use is too soft.

they are good mills for the price point. but like you, myself, and i'm sure everyone who has put enough grain thru them, they wear out eventually.

I've been using this mill for over 10 years.  I bet I've put close to a ton of grain through it.  pretty awesome now that I think about it.

so I used the mill today (hopefully brewing tomorrow) and it worked great.  I had flipped the roller and cleaned everything up and put it back together.  works as good as it ever did.  no issues feeding today.  we'll see how long it lasts I guess

so I snugged up the gap a little bit today because I think my efficiency has been taking a hit.  I had to "hand start" it a few times but not too bad.  I think the crush looked finer so we'll see how my efficiency is.

My BC was a major pia the other day. It took an hour to mill 14# of grain. An hour in a muggy, 90 degrees garage. I did the forward/reverse at least 100 times. To be honest, I've had it for over 15 years - I can't complain too much. Time to move on, though.

Thinking this one. The gears seem like it would stop the stalling? Maybe? Maybe not? But its out of stock until mid August

That looks really nice. I can't tell how that third roller works. You are correct that the top two rollers are geared. I have to think this would nearly completely solve feeding issues. The third roller is probably the adjustable part. First two mostly crush the grain, third one finishes the job to the level you'd like.

Not a bad price either.

hmmmm - I see that coupon code is still good.  did you have to order other stuff to get $30.  I instinctively closed the popup before I read it carefully.

I was a penny shy for $30. I could have got $20 but added 2 small items that I needed anyway ($8 total) to get $30.
$180 for the $30 coupon.

That's what I thought I saw for the millisecond before I automatically closed the pop up.
