[HVB]

Realized that I was out of pilsner malt yesterday. Just enough for the batch I planned. Luckily, I made a comment on on FB and a commercial brewer friend is hooking me up with a sack of Weyerman Pils and then asked if I needed anything else so a sack of Golden Promise is on the way as well. For once bad planning worked out for me.

I would guess some of the smaller breweries are sitting in inventory that they don't know what to do with.

These guys are still putting out a fair amount of beer for the current climate but I agree with you. I have a feeling this will be the straw that breaks the bubble.

Around me we have several small, under 3bbl,places that are growler fill only. I have been seeing FB post from beer stores saying they have their beer for sale now. The taproom model is only good when you have people in those taproom.

Always a supporter of the local local, this is killing me. I hate to see places that are thriving or on the verge getting hurt. Pray most make it out alive.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm kind of hoping this breaks the craft beer bubble. I hate that I see two packs of beer for $15 at the liquor store when that was how much the MOST exotic 4 pack would cost only a few years ago. I've literally been priced out of the market, and I'd love to see prices come down so I can justify buying the "good stuff." 

 

That said, I'm not vindictive. I hope everyone lands on their feet and stays well. I just wish "special" beer was more affordable.

I second that. Like drez we are $20+ here as well.

 

I went to stock up on a few beers a couple weeks ago at the local bottle shop. After seeing all these $20+ 4-packs of beers that I really don't know anything about or how they taste I just grabbed a bomber of something interesting and got out of there. I ended up swinging by the grocery store and grabbed a 12-pack each of Guinness and SNPA. I felt kinda bad but at the same time I just wanted something I knew I would like without risking my unemployed dollars.

Prices are getting outrageous here. I blame the distributor more then anyone on the retail end. I used to work at a liquor store part time during '09-'11. Back then the retailer and the distributor used beer "just to get people in the door." Liquor was the biggest profit margin for then. Still is, but overnight, the distributors raised the price of "that fancy beer".

Example. I spent nearly $22.00 on Friday for two six packs. SN's 40th anniversary, and Sol (Mexican light lager).

Going rate of a 4 pack of cans of smaller, local breweries are $18-$30.


Well, times have changed.

I've said it more then a few times, but if I didnt know or enjoy making beer, I couldn't afford it.

One of my favorite local breweries is selling crowlers for $13 for their "normal" beers. That's $6.50/pint, or equal to or more than I paid while on premises. It makes little sense. At the other end of the spectrum, Victory was just selling 3 crowlers for $10 of any beer on tap. That was a bargain that got me out of the house!

Holy shit. you can get a regular six pack for $8!? That's a great price. And considering it's a NEIPA you're talking about, that's an INSANE price. Beer has gotten crazy. I can't wait for it to even out. And yes, Prima is probably my favorite American made Pils
