But that's nothing on cats. People really don't adopt black cats.

This explains lab colors. Silver comes from a recessive gene that is not connected to color.

black labs are desirable. Historically the brown labs were not wanted.

Two out of three of our dog adoptions are black. The blonde yorkie we have is fun, but a horrible dog. He will be across the yard with my wife telling at him to come back to the house and he just stares at her. I have to go to the door and call him back with a bit of growl in my voice.

No more blonde dogs!

We have a black lab. Great dog. She overheats very easily, though, here in sunny Colorado.

Probably as close to a simple explanation as possible, but I bet it's a lot more complicated like eye color. If the sun shines on my silver lab you can see that his coat has a chocolate sheen to it.

I'm pretty excited to get a puppy. I haven't had a real puppy since I was 15.

Great looking pup!

In other news. My 4yr old male lab woke us up at 4am last night. He was restless so I took him outside. Came back in and he had some muscle spasms. All his paws and body were spasming about every 5 or 6 seconds. His eyes were dilated a bit but still responsive. It was almost like a seizure. Anyway, he ate some cookies and after about 5 min the spasms stopped. I think he may have come in contact with a buffo toad. It rained yesterday and they tend go come out then. I've killed about 10 of them on the porch. They like to hop into the dog water dish. Anyway, he seemed fine today.

what is the one on the left? I like the coloring, spots and eyes

He is a 9 month old Australian Shepherd. Very high drive and very energetic at the moment. He is about to wear me and the other dogs out.

I know a few people with Aussie Shepherds. If their eyes are open, they want to run around and play

We get to pick the new pup on Friday! From the videos they sent one is a little lazier the other is more energetic. I think we're going for the more energetic one but we'll decide when we get there. Already have a name for her, Pepper. I'm prett excited.

We've been looking for a rescue for months. We're not the only one with the idea, I guess, because desirable dogs disappear quickly.

Damn. That's scary. No relapses?

Our cat had a seizure out of the blue one day in the barn. Just happened to be there and saw it. Got up afterwards, tried to walk and had terrible balance. Vet found out it was a bladder stone that got him backed up and threw his kidneys all out of whack. They did a surgery that basically re-routed his urethra in a straight shot out right from his bladder. Chopped off his wiener. 5 years later and he's been perfectly healthy since.

Anyway, sorry for the digression. Hope your new pup is tons of fun and your other critters are nice and happy!
