As mentioned in the "Who is Brewing" thread... I'm back! I think the last time I brewed was 2012...
Planning to brew small batches. Dry yeast only. Temp-controlled fermentations.
Got a PicoBrew C to start. I bought it as "Blemished" for $250 (regularly $400). I cannot find the blemish!
For its inaugural run, I bewed the Rogue Dead Guy Ale Pico Pack.
I really missed the smell of wort and hops!
PicoBrew logs your brew online:
I was interested to see what the technical details of the brew were:
Looks like it doughed in at about 110F for about 8 minutes. Took about 9 minutes to ramp up to 149F where it held for 19 minutes. Bumped it up to 155F for 26 minutes.
"Boil" temperature looks to be 203F. Boil length was about 30 minutes. Bittering hops at 30 minutes, Bittering/Flavor addition at about 15 minutes.
This is a "no-chill" process, so I'll pitch yeast tomorrow - US-05, and put it in a fridge at 65F.
You can "tweak" the ABV and IBUs a little when you start the brew. I was tempted, but I decided to leave them at the default values so I could compare to a commercial Dead Guy Ale.
Checked the wort with my refractometer: 16.3° Brix (1.0667 SG).
