No he gets a 2009 Prius with 125k miles on it. He doesn't care as long as he has something. Although the 48 mpg is important to him.

I am a little nervous he will drive himself to practice tonight. First time on his own.

Before I canceled mine in my last 30s, GEICO liability on a truck over 10 years old was like $55/mo. I'd say you're doing pretty good on a youngin'

He will not text, he will not even turn the radio on. Right now he realizes he is inexperienced, the concern will be in a few months when he has experience making sure he doesn't get over confident.

A few weeks ago he got to witness distracted driving. We went to a hockey game: my wife, fil, son and me. We were having dinner after the game. The game ran over and we were late for our reservations. My wife is driving, fil in the front seat I am in the back with my son. It is dark, raining we are late and dealing with post game campus traffic. My wife holding the phone for the gps to the restaurant. It was obvious to us that it was impacting her driving. My son is looking at me he easily observed how driving is impacted. He proceeded to tell her at dinner, might not if been his best decision.

A lot of companies are cutting rates on kids, figuring that the usual astronomical rate increases as soon as a kid turns 16 cause the entire household to shop.  So now your years without kids tend to subsidize your years with kids.  It's not a bad arrangement, really.

does my driving record factor into his rate? I would think kids who have parents with tickets/accidents would be more likely to have kids who are poor drivers
