I don’t think this is racism, per se

A black acquaintance is claiming a manager a racist.

On a team of 9 women, there are 4 black, 1 mixed race, and 4 white. The manager is white and gets along with all 4 of the white colleagues pretty well. She struggles with/is at odds with the mixed race employee and 3 of the black employees. However, she goes to bat repeatedly for the 4th black employee. And believe me, this chick is bad at her job, but the manager always has a cover for her.

...doesn’t the fact that white manager stands up for this one black employee pretty much make the racist argument invalid?

I think it’s just coincidental that she doesn’t get along with 4 people who happen to be minorities. I think it’s just personalities at that point.

page 3: I am the 10th teammate/employee, caucasian as hell, and white manager isn’t too fond of me either. :)

Honestly, at this point, Jkor might be the only one who can tell you why the racism is your fault in this scenario.

Obviously I have no idea if she’s racist or not, but the fact that she covers for a black person doesn’t invalidate the racist argument. Treating one person well is certainly some evidence of non-racism. It should be considered, but it isn’t by itself definitive of anything IMO. Lots of racist people have a black friend, talk about “the good ones,” etc.

Brownie derangement syndrome is freaking rampant around here. You guys are so very sad. How hard can it be to simply formulate your own opinion about something rather than nitpick something brownie said once and harp on it every day? Get a hobby, or pay attention to your wife or job or something. It’s really weird.

Her actions? No. It’s the burning cross on her desk that makes her a racist.

For some, any discrepancy between white people and non-white people is racism, regardless how the person feels about the other race. This is referred to as antiracism. Only outcomes matter. Any outcome that is not equally distributed between races is racist.

I hear you. This black acquaintance isn’t really helping my clean slate at this company. I think she’s one I’m going to have to ghost. I don’t want to burn the bridge, but, she’s just feeding me way too much bullshit for it all to be believable.

it’s going to be weird but I’m just not going to reply to her unless it’s specifically about work.

A sexist male will still marry a woman.

You can believe that a given demographic are inferior, stupid, more prone to crime, etc and still help or assist somebody from that group. IOW you can a racist without harming or taking action against members of the race you are prejudiced against.

True. I find the harmful shift in the definition of racism to be quite fascinating.
