One word about growing peppers: cross-pollination. OK, that's probably 2

I grew some shishitos that crossed with my red bells. They were the gnarliest but best tasting red bells I ever had. Didn't get any seeds from them though. :(

I sprout the seeds in rubbermaid containers on paper towels and then when germinated I poke into 1x1 peat pots. They're called Jiffy strips. yield in the peat pots is 100%.

For increased yield prune the plants. Mine grew tall, spindly and had branches break off under the weight of the peppers. Knowledge: too little too late... bummer.

good luck in the new growing season. Some guys post garden threads that are nothing short of amazing. I seriously envy them.

ahh another believer in 1st generation affects of cross pollinated fruits, doesn't happen, if you got wierd bells it was from those seeds not your hot peppers grown nearby

Hey, my degree's in Engineering, not Botany. :P And when it comes to gardening, I'm pretty much a duffer compared to most folks on this board.

But come to think of it I had a smaller array of peppers the year before and The Shishitos and red bells were fairly close together.

FWIW shishitos are not hot. Now supposedly one in eight are 'spicy'; whatever the heck that means. They could have said 'A high degree of capsaicin' but they didn't so who knows. But all I can say I've consumed 100's of Shishitos that I've grown and never had a hot one.

Wait a minute, that might explain my wrinkled skin. Can fruit cross-pollinate humans?

Went to pick them, and they’re already dried out... So dry, I had to be careful picking them or they would crumble... so I had about 17 peppers, I picked the stems off(it seemed oddly familiar) and threw them into the coffee grinder I keep for spices. I ground them seed and all.. AWESOME!!
