My jeep wrangler has pretty much hit the skids at ~ 225k miles (2009.)

Major radiator repair last week, almost $900 then this week the transmission went out. Replaced that about 2 years ago, and it's toast again. That repair will run in the $2500 - $2800 range.

While I'm pissed at the money I've thrown in to it, I think I need to unload it as is. Given the transmission, trade in value will be pretty low...but at that mileage it's not going to be big money any way, right? Plus cash out of pocket in addition to additional closing costs on a new to me vehicle.

What's the phbt say?

edit to add: If I had Scrooge McDuck money & storage room, I'd keep it on the side, fix it as time/interest allowed & turn it in to a trail monster.

You need to become Scrooge McDuck asap.

At 225k, how much more than $3000 would it even be worth?

Is the frame & chassis in good shape? You might be able to find someone looking for a project car.

That is the question...jeep wranglers generally hold their value pretty well, but...

That's not a bad idea. I have some contacts in the local jeep club from when I used to wheel around.

The blue book value I found lists the price at $4500 - $5800 in "fair" condition...which would be quite a step up from it's current condition, lol. Dump.

Seriously, if they low ball it too much, I may store it & hope to gear it up someday.

The ‘07-‘11 wranglers aren’t generally favored as jeeps go given the 3.8 engine. I’ve known several people who had engine failure long before the 200k mark.
I’d probably be tempted to dump it unless you’re willing to do a complete engine swap too.
Is it the 2 or 4 door version? 4 door models seem to be sought after by people wanting to build a rock crawler but the 2 door in that age range not so much.

4 door.

I have a set of gears for my previous JK when I was really into off roading, never regeared before selling that one...it was a 2007 iirc, probably would still work. Decent first step to building a beast. Throw in a lift and some tires...oh yeah, I"m not Scrooge McDuck.

Took a massive financial hit on the other house. Closing on it tomorrow. Making money on the sale, but the cost to get it on the market and the months of double mortgage put me in a deep hole that, worst case, will take me about a year to crawl out of.

Damn, was thinking you meant you had a family and stuff. Sorry to hear that, BUT glad you offloaded it before a sinkhole opened up and ate it. Cursed. Remember the time you had a jeep and the house destroyed it?  Remember the house that didn't kill all your cats fast enough? Remember that time you woke up married there? The plumbing ... Remember the time Biddle lived in the house and got PTSD? The list goes on ...

What’s the vehicle trade in version of an upper decker? Fish in the ventilation duct?

Random thought due to the dump title.
