No longer "classic" cars only.  :)

Look at this badass Benz...

The best man in my wedding owns two classic Mercedes and does all the maintenance on them himself. He would be all about it.

Watched some big auction on ESPN today as background noise while I was working on an online GIMP course. There was a beautiful fully restored 36 sedan. No reserve. They had to put $40 to $60k into it. Sold for $12k. They took a bath. Some cars were going for $50 to $60k.

You take your chances at auction.

Just cuz you put money into a car doesn't mean someone wants it.

It takes knowing the market and having the cash to stash in a car. I’ve got a cousin who buys and sells antique cars as a hobby. He has had more steam powered cars than anyone else a couple times, regularly trades/buys and sells with Jay Leno and that crowd.
Probably has in excess of a million dollars in the collection and actually says he makes a little money and keeps the garage lights on. He owns a city block sized warehouse/garage the next town over with apartments above it to augment the hobby too.

This so much. The guys that are buying cars, "restoring" them and then flipping them for a profit are hacking shit together and covering major flaws to get their garbage sold. Building a car well, not restored or any thing crazy, just quality work, costs a shit load.

Here's a good article:  https://www.hemmings...comment-page-1/

Can you afford $70k?  Cuz that's what it sold for (+5% auction fee).  :)
