My curiosity is peaked. What's your total cost per bird....from eggs to butcher? Organic chickens are damn expensive at the store.

Well, the first round will be the most expensive.  Got these eggs off eBay.  Got 16 eggs, 12 hatched - which is a really good hatch rate for shipped eggs.

I am butchering 10 and saved a rooster and a hen back -- so the next set of eggs is "free" - Here's the 2 that got the reprieve lol

Did you count the chickens before or after they hatched?

90 days from when I hatched them. They hatched around 9/2. {They take 21 days to hatch once you put them on the incubator}

What else would you like to know? ... I've hatched - must to the chagrin of my wife - 100's of chicks in the basement. :)

Ha

Well now I do feel like a dumbass... I thought we might be watching this in real time when you were posting the photos. I thought “how did I get through 43 years not knowing that chickens become nearly full grown within weeks? I need to google the lifespan of a chicken.”

You sure tricked this clueless city girl!
