I'm brewing a sweet stout this weekend and wanted to give 1450 a try but my LHBS doesn't have any in stock. What's everyone's go-to replacement, liquid or dry? I'm considering 1272 American II, 1084 Irish and perhaps 1087 but that may be a seasonal offering and I'm doubting my shop has it. I probably have a sachet of S-05 at home but want to try something different that leaves more sugars behind and provides a good mouthfeel. The beer will have at least 1/2 pound of lactose plus some C60.

1272 is what Denny has always said he used before finding 1450 and that it is close.  1272 would be my choice.

per the other thread BRY-97 (dry yeast) is supposed to be 1272.  just another option in case they don't have 1272.

That makes 2 of us!  If you can't get 1450, 1272 won't be the same but it will be good.

Thanks, guys. I was surprised when the shop owner said they pretty much only special order it since it doesn't move quickly. I may lean towards the BRY-97 since brew day is tomorrow morning and I won't have much time for a starter. Shooting for an OG of around 1.060 so a smack pack alone is probably not sufficient. I suppose I could make a vitality starter and just wait a few hours before pitching...

are you picking up the yeast today?  if yes you can make a starter tonight and it will probably be fine to pitch tomorrow.

Yep, grabbing it on the way home from work. I don't think I have any DME but I can grab that as well.
