....of the year!!!

No, not Christmas.  Hop pre-order season for hop heaven!

What are you guys thinking of buying for the upcoming year?  Anything new?

I'm considering changing things up this year and going for some "affordable" hops:

Cascade @ $14/lb

Centennial @ $14/lb

Chinook @ $13/lb

Willamette @ $14/lb

I've never used Bravo before but at $13/lb I might.  Anyone have any experience there?

Also, how about eldorado @ $15/lb?  I seem to remember this one being pretty popular so if it's good that price doesn't seem too bad.

I'm completely out of simcoe and only have about half a pound of citra left but at $19 and $20 per pound respectively I'm willing to try some different hops for my APAs/IPAs this year.

I think your choices are pretty cool.  I've paired up El Dorado with Citra and Mosaic in what I thought was a delicious Pale Ale.  All whirlpooled and dry hopped.

At Hop & Brew School Stan recommended adding about 10% of your hop bill as Bravo if you're making a fruity hop forward beer.  I tried it, and damned if he wasn't right!  )

I have done this as well after you mentioned it here and I do like adding some Bravo really makes them "juicy"   :D

2nd that!! That's become a favorite hop combo of mine. Flavors shine thru in WP and dry hop additions, IMO.

Yup. Bravo is very nice. Big bold citrus notes. As Denny noted vis a vis Stan the man, I agree it’s best blended tho. El Dorado is also fantastic. It has a tropical fruit spicy thing that I dig. Like you know how mangoes sometimes are a little spicy? Like that. Pretty neat.

I am not going to get much this year.  I do have some nelson in my cart but 33/# is making me cringe!

I ended up just going with New Zealand and Australian hops this year. Went with a pound each of Nelson, Vic Secret and Riwaka

got all my hops today - now what to brew??!!!  I'm thinking I might do a classic cascade/willy beer since it's been so long since I've had both of those.  or maybe something with bravo, eldorado and some strata from last year.  hmmmmm
