Brewed an IPA yesterday. OG 1.060, 1 pack, no rehydration, 63F pitch and fermentation temp. 18 hours later I have active fermentation.

I just checked out the description, is this basically like 001 or 1056 or Saf 05? If so I'm interested cause it's way cheaper than my other local options.

Cheers!

Looks like I'm getting some BRY97 the next time I need dry American ale yeast.  Which will probably be soon.

according to Denny closest to 1056.  I'm inclined to give it a go at least one time as well just to say I tried it ;)

5.5. I start bigger so I end up with 5 after losses.

MUCH cleaner than 05. But otherwise, yeah.

I posted a link in the "what's brewing" thread to the AHA forum where it was said BRY-97 compares to 1272 not 1056.

I don't think I've ever used 1272.  I think I almost did a few times but ended up using 1056 or 1450 instead.

I like 1272.  Close to 1450 in many ways.

Huh, I always thought 1272 was nowhere near as clean as 1056.

I liked it much better though.

1272 was my go to yeast before I ran across 1450.

I used it once. Made a nice beer in the end but it took like 3 days before fermentation started (and started slowly) and didn't really add anything to the beer I don't get from another yeast. YMMV.

Very similar to my experience. I will say that I used it when it was first released so maybe they did something to speed up the start time since Denny mentions not having a large lag time.

I've seen mixed reviews on various homebrew threads on the intertrons.  some are like you, some like Denny's.

I've used it 3 times in the last few months.  Never took more than 18 hours at 63F

I texted you at the time to drop by and sprinkle it on the wort for me, but I never heard back from you.

I pitched 2 packs into 11ish gallons of 1.053 wort at about 63-64F at 3:00 this afternoon.  it will be interesting to see if I get the big lag time or not.
