I thought Wallflowers cover of Heroes was an original.

I thought Hootie & The Blowfish cover of Hey Hey What Can I Say was an original.

This is a very small portion of a really large list.

In my defense, growing up the only music I had access to was stuff  that my grandparents made (they both played guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, etc).  We could not pick up any reception of a music radio station.  At my mom's house, we could get a local AM station that played mostly country and Christian music.

It’s ok... I grew up with parents that listened to talk radio, and big band music

Hines, if you haven’t listened to much Bowie (which I assume from the OP) and you like Heroes, you owe it to yourself to spinning a few of his albums. I’d say Ziggy Stardust, Station to Station, and Hunky Dory would be a good start.

Good lord, you've triggered my PTSD!  6 years I worked at Famous Footwear in the corporate offices, and with the exception of the Holidays, the Muzak was the same... every freaking day!  I must have heard the Joni Mitchell version a couple of hundred times (I'm certain I was blocking out the Muzak entirely at points).  I cannot stand this song... in any version.  And I hate the Counting Crows as well because of it.

Side note:  You've never heard the true form of Gangster's Paradise until you have heard it played on a Pan Flute.  I'm not shitting you... that was in the rotation as well!

Oh, musical edition? Much shorter than the general list.

I love Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer.

Honestly, I like their version better

I want to say I thought Knocking on Heaven’s Door and Live and Let Die were both Guns N Roses originals at first

I think probably the same with Tesla doing Signs

the song has been remade a few times, its a great song.  I admit that I kinda like the Wallflowers version a little better musically, but you can't deny the bowie vocals.

I thought Foreigner's Hot Blooded was a KISS song until I was about 14 and started getting into KISS a lot more.

To this day I still think that's a justifiable mistake.

ETA:  Just realized that video isn't the original radio version, but I'll leave it.  The original sounds even more KISS-like

Stevie Wonder is a genius. He was writing ground breaking '90s songs ... in the '70s.

Same here. I also have an unhealthy obsession with LED Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
