Porsche came out with an ev and recently posted some fast nurburgring times. Tesla not liking to be one upped said they are running it next week and shipped a car to Germany. They failed to tell the track/road to reserve time. For those that don't know the track is open to the public and often in use. It could run with the public traffic although that lap is slightly shorter and does count

I think one already ran during public access and did respectably.

the EV Porsche did it in 7:42. The public Access course is shorter by a mile(bridge to gantery)

The Porsche is the fastest street legal EV ever. Musk doesn't want to be "respectable"

Porsche is really pushing the electric technology for sports cars. I don't think Tesla will keep up if Porsche goes all in on EV performance cars.

I see model 3 and x quite a bit not many s. The shipped an s to Germany

to be fair the Porsche is 1.5x the price of the s and the Porsche actually cares about handling

ETA: performance aside, calling their new 4 door EV Taycan Turbo is stupid. They need a new brand for the EV cars not to ride on their ICE car branding. Of course 'turbo' doesn't even make sense for an electric car as well.

If you can afford a Tesla, you can afford that

Musk tweeted that the s is in Germany and they are running in the manufacturer sessions to tune it to get ready to beat Porsche.

He also tweeted that they set a record time for a 4 door production car at Laguna Seca. Video tomorrow. It think a jag has that at 1:37ish. But apples to oranges a 2 minute track to a 10. Can you run the Tesla without it kicking into limp mode on a big track?

So what's a replacement battery cost?

the model 3 is 3000-5000 depending on labor but they are rated for 300k miles? So not really a concern. I don't know the s cost

By that point you might have 100 oil changes on an ICE car, so battery cost is equivalent to a $30 - $50 oil change every 3,000 miles. That seems like a cost I could live with.

It will be interesting to see what true EV maintenance costs will be compared to ICE, as more EVs penetrate the market.  Most of the mechanical stuff is gone, outside brakes and suspension and interior goodies.  I wonder what the replacement cost for the electric drive motors is?
