For me, the sex is great.....but the fewer babies I blame on wanting to retire early and well off.  The GF is on the same wavelength.

It's a good thing that people from other countries still want to move here.

Whatever. I’ll be dead and the kids I would have had won’t have to deal with all the nonsense that is right around the corner. If I have any money left, I’ll leave it to a kindly niece or nephew.

I hope for attrition with that too, getting kind of crowded around here? ;)

Maybe mexas has the right idea. Mandatory birth control if you prove incapable of providing, but still want a handout.

I always thought that having an economy whose health relied on an ever increasing population was a fundamentaly bad idea.

The idea seems reasonable and fair since it's a choice.

Hard to see a decent implementation plan. What if a woman gives up benefits for a month and then gets knocked up? Is the resulting kid totally screwed since the mom won't get benefits again? Instead, if you let them back on, what was the disincentive?

Lots of people have an incredibly intense negative reaction to such a proposal. On both sides of the aisle.

The 28-year-old man awaiting trial over the Christchurch massacre wrote a self-justifying screed titled “The Great Replacement.” It begins: “It’s the birthrates. It’s the birthrates. It’s the birthrates.”

It IS the birthrates.

But it's the societal impact of millions of individual choices.  Not some nefarious plot.

I'm still not sure why any person should be concerned about the birthrates of any group of people.

I keep hearing the alt-right types complain that immigrants will 'replace' white people or whatever and I really don't get why that should matter.

Because western culture has created the wealthiest and safest cultures in the history of mankind, and some people are worried that major demographic shifts will change that culture to look more like the crappy parts of the world.

We've seen significant culture shifts in the past with other waves of immigration.  It's a realistic fear.
