I've not played 1 and 2, what will I miss?

Clever levels that you progress through and unlock shortcuts to a very tough end boss. Any single creature or trap can and will kill you if you're not careful. Very dark atmosphere.

very rewarding when you success. game is kind of a throwback.

it's a must play series

you will be challenged, but like I said... it's a good thing

It's along similar lines as demon souls, is it not?  Man demon souls had me sitting at like square one for the longest time. But then i found that monumental or whatever and started getting some big kills.  Very satisfying.

Yeah Demon's Souls is the first in the series. not sure they tweaked the title, it's all so Japanese
