Only just started watching this.  I like the show so far but I can't decide who this is trying to appeal to.  On the surface the answer obviously seems like liberals but on the other hand I keep thinking how I'm betting these people wished they had taken their second amendment rights more seriously.

I haven't seen a ton of the back story yet but I'm kind of wondering how things went from "things are pretty normal" to "women can't own property" literally overnight.

Watched a little more than a season before we quit. The backstory was never really developed. There was little plot progression. There was essentially no optimism.

In this political climate, there's no way it wouldn't suck.

Blessed be the fruit. As you get further into the series, it moves at a snails pace, it is about environmental disasters and the consequences to societies. Fertility being the driving force that enslaves women. We are near the end of season 2....we kind of are on break because it is depressing as feck but well done.

That's the classic "had to tell her thrice" scenario.

Read the book in college for a political science class.  Have forgotten pretty much all of it, but remember it being a boring piece of drivel.  Know that I hated it enough to not want to watch this series.

I listened to the audiobook about 6 months ago. Not interested enough to watch the series. Agree about the lack of backstory. I think it fits in more with the political climate of the 80's, moral majority, 700 club, etc.

I was not expecting the universal dislike given how popular and well received this show was when it came out. I figured I was the weird one for not having watched it :P

It'd probably be more relevant if the genders were reversed and all the dudes were wandering around grocery shopping, raising kids, and starting revolutions.

the book was written in the 80s so this would make sense.

it's a little hard to believe enough people (especially in modern day new england) going for a theocracy.  I mean, I know a very small number of religious people that could go for something in the realm of a theocracy with fewer rights for women but I know a lot more people who would say hell naw.

I have a chick friend that loves it. Says lots of sex. Maybe after a nuclear war or something? That's all I know.

I actually liked it but it's not a "must watch" for me.

Lots of awkward sex. Only some normal sex.

I haven't actually read/watched 50 shades but I could see there might be some parallels.  it certainly seems like someone is into some light bondage.
