Husk particles won't matter if your pH is in line.  Ever done a decoction mash?

Yes, a triple and more than once; just because I'm into self-flagellation.

I'm not following your argument though. What does a decoction mash have to do with husk particles in the BK and transferred to primary? You still vorlauf and drop out the big chunks regardless of how you do a stepped mash.

It's the same thing in terms of husks. The don't cause a problem in a decoction mash because of pH. If your kettle pH is correct, they won't cause a problem there, either.

Again. I'm confused. After proper Vorlaufing they don't get into the kettle. Denny, what am I missing here?

I don't.  Don't rule out confirmation bias, since everyone always told you you'd get more tannins.  These days, with so many people doing BIAB, the evidence tends to say you don't get tannins.

I never bought into the squeezing is bad thing.   It seemed to be completely non-scientific.   If your mash pH is good, you shouldn't get tannins.

Do you not boil the mash and husks during a decoction? At least that is what I assumed he meant, I could be completely wrong tho.
