Yeah, the standing water check is legit good practice. You're more in town, so maybe less of an issue, but quite often I'll find I left a lawn trailer or wheelbarrow right side up, and it collects rain. You see, I don't have a holster for it. This ain't 'sconsin.

I have a rain barrel with a screen on top but if it's overflowing there will be water on top of the screen... not good.  I also have a tarp over some firewood and water collects on top of the tarp.  I'm willing to do whatever necessary... six months looking at snow and ice so I want to be outside when I can and bugs will not win, no sir.

I was just outside planting some ground-cover and some sort of little gnats were buzzing all around me and bouncing off my eyeballs.  And yes, I pronounce the hard G... Ganatz!  :D

I got one at Costco a few days ago, and so far I'm not impressed.  It kills a ton of moths, but I dumped out the bug trap and didn't see any mosquitoes, or bits that might have been mosquitoes. I made sure to hang on to the receipt.

Man I used to hate cutting grass. Gnats up the.. whatever.

Got a tip from an old farmer. Wear a wide brimmed hat.

  1. It will shade your neck and face from sunburn
  2. Gnats will not fly under the brim.

That was 30 years ago. Still works today!

I emptied mine out the other day.  It had A LOT of bugs in it.  Moths were the easiest to ID because of their size but there was a huge pile of black/gray "parts" that had to have some amount of mosquitoes in it.  The rain here this year has been outrageous and there must be a record amount of mosquitoes.  I'm actually considering getting a second Dynatrap and placing it on the opposite side of the patio so that when we're outside in that area, we're flanked by protection.

Mine seems to be catching moths, skeeters, hornets and others.  I have noticed a huge difference in the amount of bugs in my yard since this went up.

My wife, son and I had dinner outside tonight (between 6 and 6:30) and there were no bugs.  My wife and I continued to sit outside for another two hours and there were no bugs.  Eventually she went inside and I just came inside now (9:40 ish) and no mosquitoes bothered us that entire time.  I did light a citronella candle but that was more for light than for bugs plus those candles wouldn't keep bugs away anyway.  My Dynatrap is LOADED with bugs again right now.  I'm not going to say that this is magic but the rain here has been relentless... I feel like it's rained here every day for 90 straight days (I know that's not right)... the ground is saturated.  There is mud everywhere.  I assume that there should be an unbelievable amount of mosquitoes but I just sat outside for almost 5 hours without a bite.  NOICE!  Oh and one other thing... the bugs love me.  LOVE ME.

Yes, but not whole-heartedly.  It caught a lot of japanese beetles and probably trapped a lot of mosquitoes, but it's mostly a moth killer.  I'm sure it helped, but it did not make the yard mosquito free.

The blue light burned out or broke over the winter, but they included a spare.
