the feed from the BBC has said they are guessing it's a renovation work accident but they do not know the actual cause

I would’ve liked to have seen it in person.

I can’t imagine they’ll be able to save much of anything other than the stone worK.

Like for forest fires? I don’t know that I’d want to drop a ton or two of water on a 700 year old building

Not likely sitting on standby in an urban area like Paris. I am highly skeptical that any of the worlds "great" cities would have that. It's not really a standard fire fighting practice.

I can’t imagine the notes, records, bibles, etc that have been lost forever. The building can be replicated, but that stuff cannot. Sad day.
