Ken, imagine this in your beautiful backyard. You come home from work and there's a wet nasty landmine the size of a baseball right on the edge, and I mean right on the edge of the coping of your pool. Stains the deck too. Then imagine if you don't bleach it, chlorine it, you get the idea, that same salmonella carrying bastard comes back in a couple days to do it again... That's why I have a Remington Air Rifle ready to roll at any given time. We're allowed to kill them humanely. A pellet through the head is humane enough for me. They're disgusting creatures that don't belong here anyway.
Mmm, didn't know that. I have seen them on various vacations in Aruba, Mexico, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, etc. and they always seem cool. At the one place we have stayed many times, I have never seen iguana dookie on the pool deck. They either do that in the shrubs or else the staff cleans it up pronto. In my hood, it's birds and Grackles in particular. Apparently their gig is that they have to clean out their nest when their young poop in there. If the poop remains in the nest it's 1) nasty and 2) going to attract predators. If these birds lived in a remote area, they would pick the poop up in their beak and drop it in a nearby stream, lake, pond, etc. Well when they nest in trees near me, my pool is the pond. Sometimes they hit the target and poop is floating in the pool and will eventually sink. Other times they miss and leave a skidding poop blob on the pool deck. It's disgusting. It's mainly in the spring and it fluctuates based on how many of these things are nearby. The pressure washer and the net get a lot of work.
These things are nasty and territorial too. There are tall arbor vitae shrubs near my garbage can area. I go to drop something into the can and they will dive-bomb me because I'm too close to their nest. If I have a couple beers in me I might grab the extension pole for the pool and start swinging.
