He was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer last month. It is now stage 4, and he decided to stop treatment and go into Hospice. My parents are visiting him to help him get moved. Apparently he is severely jaundiced.
My dad's family is/was a mess. They were always fighting and not speaking to each other. Uncle John was the only one that my dad didn't fight like that with. He lived in Edmonton, so I only saw him once a year at most. He owned a tea shop in downtown and a catering business. He got Gretsky's autograph for my brother at a catering job. He catered for all the Oilers at the time of Gretsky and Fuhrer. John Candy also frequented the shop and had a special table in the window that he always sat at. He always had some good stories. Smoked like a chimney.
My dad is the oldest of 4. John is the second oldest and Anne was after him. The youngest, Albert, was only 7 when my parents were married. Albert was murdered in a burglary in his smoking shop in Amsterdam. Soon it will be just my dad and his sister. They are now quite close, after years of not talking much at all.
I guess vibes for as little pain as possible. He is undiagnosed with the thyroid condition my kids have. After 70 years of living with it untreated, his mind is not right. He's just not the same person that I knew as a kid. Vibes that his anxiety and crazy doesn't possess him and that he has a peaceful end to his life.
