It's also a lot of unnecessary weight to be hauling around.

Other than the tube, it’s less than the weight of the food you packed in

how much does the tube weigh though?  and the bulk factor seems pretty annoying as well.  also - gross.

the hauling around my own poop part doesn't bother me, it's the size and awkwardness of the tube.  if you are out backpacking for any decent length of time, figuring out the best way to secure that bulky thing to your pack, without it bouncing around, will get old in a hurry

Keller, do you happen to have any indication of say, an upcoming apocalyptic event or anything similar? Your recent fixation on methods of crapping and sleeping without any form of shelter using homemade equipment has me wondering if there is reason to be concerned about something beyond standard prepper-style shtf type scenarios. Give it to us straight, the Vogons are coming, aren't they? May 25th if I had to guess, even though it's not a Tuesday.

The earth's magnetic pole is shifting rapidly. The earth's core is made up of molten rock with varying levels of conductivity/iron content. This creates the magnetosphere which protects the earth from solar ions and particles. You can think of the magnetosphere as the field around a crude electric motor. If the sun blasts a killshot of radiation and electric charge, the earth's rotation could be drastically altered. The killshot could flip the magnetic core, slow or speed up the rate of rotation, change the axis of rotation or all of the above. One likely result would be seawater flooding the land as the earth's "motor" brakes the rotation of the rock while the water keeps on spinning.

Cosmology 101, like a hundred years ago, maybe more. Everybody hates that class because of the math heavy modeling of iron core planets. First you have to identify the location of magnetic conductive magma veins, then you have to model the level of conductivity, then project the magnetic field out into space and predict the impact of solar electromagnetic radiation on the entire field. The problem is that the conductivemagma veins are not really veins, its more like a fruit salad where the chunks of conductive magma are held in place by the electromagnetic field. When the sun's electromagnetic field changes, the conductive magma blobs can jumble and rearrange to completely change the internal magnetic core. By the way, this is what causes some earthquakes. So then your model doesn't work anymore and you have to start over again.
