If I'm going to bribe my kids' way into college, it won't be to USC.

The cheating part doesn't surprise me have someone take the test for the kid.

The sports recruiting angle surprised me. The way I understand it, athletes have a lower admission standard. The coach would say they are recruiting them and get them admitted as an walk on athlete. The kid would never join the team. At a d1 school you would think more than just the coach would have to be in on the scam. Most of these kids didn't play the high school sport. The scam seemed to be very sport specific, crew, tennis, soccer etc

Should we try to move this shizzle to the hot spot by saying that almost everyone involved here is a lefty?   I keed, I keed.  I heard that celebrities used the system and that coaches and other academics-types ran the system but I'm not sure I heard how the two entities got together.  How did the schools know people wanted to buy their way in or how did celebrities find out that they could just write a check?  What was the conduit?

the celebrities are just the people that have name recognition. Most are wealthly ceo exec, business owners. I don't know their politics

As far as the schools it seemed isolated. A soccer coach at this school, a crew coach at this school etc. How did clients find out? Seems like a referral process "this company helped my kid get into school they can help you". Probably similar to insider trading tips

Mmm, seems reasonable.

I am also puzzled at the money and risk they took to get into specific school. These people could have paid tuition for schools the kids were actually qualified for.

But the parents clearly wanted the kids to go to specific schools for whatever the reason... That's where the parents went, that's where the kid's friends were going, etc. Celebrities are used to getting what they want. Just ask Vagus.

I thought most schools had "legacy" protocol, where the admission standard for the child of an alumni was lower than the regular standard.  But maybe I'm wrong.

As for Laughlin, I read that neither she nor her husband have college degrees. It's very curious given that the one daughter really didn't seem to want to go to college and had Kardashianed her way into wealth.

The whole thing is laughable, however I'm not surprised this has been going on.  I thought I heard about something like this going on years ago but can't remember the context.

Can’t you get a good enough score on the SAT to get into USC just by writing your name?

it seems like the large well known schools have pretty high standards because so many people apply.

I know that Ohio State is hard to get into. But their under grad degrees are not necessarily harder than the less well known state schools (Toledo, bowling green, Kent, ou etc)

Why are these people being arrested but the people taking the bribes are not?

Many of these are public institutions. These are public officials taking these bribes.

They are. Several coaches and other university employees are under indictment.

The question you should have asked was why they weren't being plastered all over the news?  Well... a rowing coach at USC isn't sensational.  A Hallmark Queen is.  You still have to get clicks on your site to justify the ad sales.  Can you tell me you would be looking at the websites if the headline and content was about a rowing or soccer coach?
