Briess Pilsner or 2-row, 50-lb sacks for $29.99.  LINK.  Haven't used Briess in awhile.  How bad could the pilsner malt be?

LMAO.  I just came here to post this.

ETA - 51.07 shipped to me.  I have to look back and see what I paid the last group buy from a LHBS.

Briess makes a decent Pils malt, especially for that price.

Also saw that the regular ol' 2-row is on sale for $29.99/50lb.

I haven't bought Briess malt in a long time.  I think there were a few times where I needed something small like C40 or whatever and the online store I was using only had Briess and I remember thinking, Oh man... not BRIESS! but I'm truly not sure if their stuff is that bad.  If I haven't brewed with it for awhile how do I know I didn't have poor brewing practices back then?  What's the knock on Briess?  I have 2 close-to-full sacks of Golden Promise and Weyermann Barke Pils so I don't need it but it's a hell of a deal.

I've got 2 nearly full bags of Swaen pils on hand, but I'm going to spring for a bag of the plain 2-row.

For $48 delivered, that's hard to pass up.

I agree on the price and I'll be honest... I'm tempted.  Btw, how do you like the Swaen?  I went through 2 sacks of the Pils and 1 of the "Ale".

Also... $48.26 for the sack of Briess Pils for me.

I've got 3 batches in progress with the Swaen; one kegged and 2 cold-crashing, so I haven't tried them yet.

But if what I saw/tasted/smelled on brewday is an indication, I think they'll be good.

I have had no issues with the Swaen beers I have made, all with pils.

I could live a long time on those 2 malts alone.

Agreed. You can make a lot of styles with those two.

I was at my local supplier that carries full sacks for sale and I needed "ale base malt" and there were a lot of options but I ended up with Simpson's Golden Promise for something like $86 which I considered steep.  But it does make some very nice beer.  I should probably make a "blonde ale" with the majority of the grist being this stuff just so it can stand out.  The Barke is just outrageous as a pilsner malt.  By far the best I have used.

Just saw this link on FB. I remember the Pils malt being bland; May of gotten a bad bag. but 51.07 to the door for two row? I'll work OT to cover the cost.

Edit: totally pulled the trigger on a bag.

Yeah, so do I just pull the trigger and buy it because the price is so good?  When you see good prices it may not be necessary to NEED it right now... I can keep it closed in my dark, cool, dry basement and use it when the time comes.  So.  Close.  To.  Ordering.  :D

I started a THREAD on the low-O2 forum and their take on it is that it's "bland".  So add some Vienna or Munich 1 to the grist to deepen it a little bit?

Lol. I had good experiences with the 2-row. I have a couple of Mylar bags and silica gel packs in reserve for this. couldn't. say. no.

Hmm. guess I wasn't the only one who thought that. Vienna would brighten up the flavor in a pinch.

I personally wouldn't pay $50/bag for that pils but I can get best malz for that price if I am willing to work local connections.  I'd probably be fine using it for something like an APA where I wanted to us pils but if it was for a helles or something like that I'd want to pay a little more and get something a little better.  and that's me saying that as a cheap bastard.  I'm just not willing to risk it.
